Presidential Intelligence Commission Begins Work

A presidential bipartisan commission tasked with investigating prewar U.S. intelligence on Iraq and WMD proliferation held its first meeting Wednesday, two months after the panel was created, a commission spokesman said yesterday (see GSN, Feb. 13).

“The members of the commission came away with a very clear sense of direction on what they want to do,” spokesman Larry McQuillan said after the meeting.

Only a small number of commission staff members have so far been appointed and its executive director, retired Vice Adm. John Redd, is currently posted in Iraq and will not begin work until next month, McQuillan said (Douglas Jehl, New York Times, April 2).
