Anthrax:  Waagner Pleads Not Guilty to Hoax Letters

Clayton Lee Waagner pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges that he mailed anthrax hoax letters to abortion clinics across the United States (see GSN, Sept. 20).

Waagner, 45, was arrested in December on suspicion of sending the hoax letters last fall; he faces unrelated charges in four other states and a 30-year prison sentence in Illinois for weapons offenses and breaking out of jail (see GSN, April 19).  He is being tried in a federal court in Philadelphia (Chicago Tribune, Oct. 18).
