India:  New Delhi Seeks U.S. Approval for Arrow Interceptors from Israel

U.S. and Indian defense officials have finished two days of talks in New Delhi, which included discussions on India’s possible purchase of the Israeli Arrow missile interceptor, Aerospace Daily reported today (see GSN, Nov. 25, 2002).  India wants up to eight of the systems, although officials have said it would be difficult to pay the $3 billion to $5 billion such a purchase would cost.  The United States has not yet decided to approve the purchase (see GSN, Aug. 13, 2002).  U.S. approval is needed because the Arrow was jointly developed by the United States and Israel (Bulbul Singh, Aerospace Daily, Jan. 21).
