Japan Drops Plan to Study Ballistic Missile
From Wednesday, December 8, 2004 issue.
Japan has decided not to study the development of a long-range, surface-to-surface missile system, an official said today (see GSN, Dec. 3). The Japanese Defense Agency had planned the study because of growing concerns over China and North Korea, according to Agence France-Presse. The plan was dropped because of opposition from the Buddhist-oriented political party New Komeito, a member of the ruling coalition, a party official said (Agence France-Presse, Dec. 8).
