Kazakhstan Calls for Aid for Peaceful Research at Former Biological Warfare Plant


Kazakhstan needs $120 million in investments to develop several biological technology enterprises at the former Stepnogorsk biological weapons plant, Deputy Education and Science Minister Nuraly Bekturganov said last week (see GSN, Dec. 17, 2003). The planned biotechnology projects include reprocessing wheat to make other types of products, such as vaccines and antibiotics, he said (Kazakh Embassy release, Jan. 30).
