The academy, working with the National Research Centre (NRC), is currently trying to develop natural pesticides against insects from plants. The object of this research is to make these pesticides safe and biodegradable. It is also working with the NRC to develop drugs from Egyptian medicinal plants, which are studied chemically and biologically to determine their biological activities.

In June 2001, the academy signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Council of Scientific and Industrial Research by which Egypt and India agreed to cooperate in researching information technology, biotechnology, renewable energy, remote sensing, satellite technology, and nuclear medicine. On 18 April 1994, the academy also signed a framework agreement on scientific and technical cooperation with the Russian Academy of Sciences.
