Other Names: Ch'ŏngjin Chemical Fiber Factory (淸津化學纖維工場)
Location: Ch'ŏngjin (淸津市), North Hamgyŏng Province (咸鏡北道), North Korea
Subordinate to: 5th Machine Industry Bureau (第5機械産業總局), Second Economic Committee (第2經濟委員會) for chemical weapons production; and the Ministry of Chemical Industry (化學工業省) for civilian production
Size: Annual production capacity of 300 tons of pesticides; 10,000 tons of other chemical products, including carbonic acid, formalin (presumably formaldehyde), and phenol; and 30,000 tons of synthetic fiber; about 3,000 employees; at least one source claims this facility has a substantial production capacity for sulfuric acid, on the order of tens of thousands of tons per year.
Primary Function: Production of synthetic fiber, various chemical products, including carbonic acid, formalin (presumably formaldehyde), and phenol; possible production of sulfuric acid and CW agents, namely riot-control and blood agents
Description: According to Kim Wŏn Pong, director of the Northeast Asia Research Institute (北東亞問題硏究所) in Japan, and Osamu Eya, a Japanese journalist, claim this facility produces tear and blood agents.
