After Pakistan conducted nuclear tests in May 1998, the U.S. government sanctioned four chemical and biological entities in Pakistan, among the dozens of other entities associated with that country's nuclear and ballistic missile programs. The four sanctioned chemical and biological entities were:
- Daud Khel Chemical Plant, Lahore,
- Karachi CBW & BW Warfare R&D Laboratory,
- Husein Ebrahim Jamal Research Institute for Chemistry, Karachi, and
- Karachi CBW Research Institute.
All four facilities have since been removed from the sanctions list. Pakistan is a member of the Chemical Weapons Convention and the Biological Weapon and Toxin Convention, and is not known to have had any offensive chemical weapon or biological weapon programs in the past. There is little or no information in public literature that would link the above facilities to offensive chemical or biological warfare programs.
