Iran vs. Iraq

Proponents Say: Continue Pressure on Both Countries.

  • Intensify economic sanctions against Iran and Iraq, until Iran abandons WMD and Iraq accepts UN inspections.

Opponents Say: Unilateral Sanctions Will Not Be Effective.

  • The United States cannot implement this policy alone, and other countries whose support would be needed to make this policy work oppose trade sanctions. There is no way to make unilateral U.S. sanctions effective at this time
