Bio Funders Compact Launch Event

The Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) is partnering with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) to launch the Bio Funders Compact on the margins of the 2024 Global Health Security Conference in Sydney, Australia.

The world is experiencing a 21st century bioscience and biotechnology revolution driven by rapid technological advances and accelerated by artificial intelligence. These advances offer significant potential benefits for human health and pandemic preparedness, fostering economic development, and guarding against climate change. However, the accelerating development of life science research and biotechnology is also contributing to growing risks of accidents or deliberate misuse, which could derail continued progress in these areas.

The international Bio Funders Compact will bring together global funders of life science research to commit to safeguarding the tools of modern bioscience and biotechnology against accidental and deliberate misuse. Signatories will commit to actions that their organizations can take in advancing this goal, including by incorporating biosecurity and biosafety considerations into their decision-making processes.

Attendees do not need to be registered for the Global Health Security Conference to attend this event.
